HSEMA’s internship program provides real-world knowledge and experience in emergency management, homeland security efforts, and intelligence analysis. Our internship program seeks qualified graduate and undergraduate students who are interested in or majoring in:

  • Cybersecurity
  • Criminal Justice
  • Emergency Management
  • English Writing – Rhetoric
  • Homeland Security
  • Intelligence Analysis
  • Information Technology/Computer Science
  • International Relations
  • Journalism
  • Law/Government
  • Political Science
  • Public Administration/Policy
  • Public Relations

A highly qualified applicant will possess the following: self-motivation, attention to detail, critical thinking skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

The HSEMA Internship Program is offered in three sessions each year: Fall, Winter, and Summer. We are currently accepting applications for the Winter session, which begins January 14, 2019, and ends April 12, 2019. For the Winter session, submit your application by October 25, 2018. Please submit the following information via email: hsema.internship@dc.gov

  • Cover letter
  • Resume
  • Writing sample
  • One (1) letter of recommendation on official letterhead from an academic or professional reference
  • Most recent transcript
  • Proof of current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program (enrollment can be supported by a transcript or an official letter from school administration. It cannot be a letter from a professor.)
  • Indicate the particular internship opportunity in the email subject line and cover letter
