Due to concerns regarding COVID-19, the College of Communication and Information Sciences has developed a temporary academic advising model that will allow us to continue to serve our students through this time of transition.
In order to assist students for the upcoming summer and fall course registration, Tisch Student Services and External Relations will be serving all C&IS undergraduate students, including upperclassmen. We have developed an e-advising form that will allow us to serve you from a distance and still ensure that you continue to receive quality guidance for your upcoming registration. In addition to the form, phone meetings with an advisor are also available.
Students can access the e-advising form here. Upon completion, the form will be sent to one of the professional advisors for review and students will receive an email reply within 3-5 business days.
If the advisor needs to speak with you, they will work with you to schedule a phone appointment. Please email email@example.com or call 205-348-8599 during normal business hours to schedule a phone appointment.
All face-to-face advising appointments will be cancelled. To transition all previously scheduled appointments to a phone appointment, please email firstname.lastname@example.org by Sunday, March 22. Otherwise, please complete the e-advising form.
Due to the extension of Spring Break, priority registration for the upcoming summer and fall terms will be delayed to begin Monday, March 30, for all currently enrolled students. In addition, the last day for a student to withdraw from a course with a W is to be extended to the last class day of Friday, April 24 due to all courses transitioning to online and the issues that will be faced by both students and instructors.
The immediate focus of Tisch Student Services and External Relations will be on preparing students for course registration. Other advising needs related to career, internships, involvement, etc., will be addressed after peak registration has passed (March 23 – April 15). The course registration calendar can be found here.
During this time, C&IS remains committed to supporting our students. In doing so, we are working with other campus support services (Student Health Center, Counseling Center, etc.) to familiarize ourselves with their continuity plan so we can make effective referrals.
