Are you a passionate, creative and driven individual looking for an internship opportunity in public relations? Our non-profit organization, Theresa Burroughs Residential Living, Incorporated is seeking a Public Relations Intern to join our team! As an intern, you will work alongside our board and Executive Committee to assist with brand awareness.  Being only a year old, we need to inform as many people as possible of this organization.

Mrs. Theresa Burroughs was a “Foot Soldier for Justice,” marching across the Edmund Pettus Bridge alongside Dr. King and others, all while raising four children, the oldest, Paula, with Developmental Disabilities.  Paula is the inspiration for a residential living facility to be built in Greensboro, AL.  It will house four senior women with developmental disabilities and one bed for respite care, giving caregivers a break.

This internship will provide you with the opportunity to work with a dynamic team, gain hands-on experience in public relations and with a non-profit organization, and build your professional network.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Assist with the creation and distribution of press releases and media pitches
  2. Monitor media coverage and compile media reports
  3. Research media opportunities and build media lists by telephone calls, emails, etc.
  4. Assist with event planning and execution
  5. Perform administrative tasks as needed

 Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a college or university program with a focus on public relations, communications, marketing, non-profits or a related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Familiarity with social media platforms
  • Basic knowledge of public relations principles and practices
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, etc.
  • Reliable internet connection and a computer in which to work
