In the 2024-2025 school year, the Student Retention Council will select ONE communications
coordinator via an application process. The Communications Coordinator will develop and execute
a communications strategy for the Student Retention Council. The strategy will be approved by the
Higher Education Partnership.

Communications Coordinators will receive a $1,000 stipend each semester (2,000 in school year)
for their work. Additionally, travel expenses will be covered. Throughout their time in this role,
Communications Coordinators will be connected to local community leaders and given an
opportunity to network with and learn from professionals across Alabama.
The Higher Education Partnership reserves the right to reduce stipends as a result of unexcused
absences from mandatory, quarterly meetings or incomplete work expectations.

Goal: Grow engagement in Retain Alabama programming by building and executing a
communications strategy among college students

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement SRC social media strategy, to be approved by Partnership
  • Connect with alumni and community leaders for testimonials, photo and video content
  • Monitor trends and build digital footprint to connect with other active groups
  • Grow awareness of SRC brand on social media
  • May also expand communications to other platforms, if relevant, including:
    o Website
    o Flyers/One-Pagers
    o Blogs
    o Newsletters

Time Requirements:

  • Weekly responsibilities (estimated 1-2 hours weekly):
  • Self-driven work to complete tasks and weekly reporting
  • At least, one bi-weekly Zoom with Partnership staff and regional directors with a written less than one-page report

Semester responsibilities:

  • Summer Zoom meetings, based on availability
  • 2 professional development events in person per semester, including orientation and final
    presentation (mandatory full day commitment, with some travel possible overnight travel
    required). Expenses for mileage and rooming are covered.
  • Fall: Project Implementation, Weekend Intensive (may require overnight travel)
  • Spring: Project Implementation, Regional Execution (may require overnight travel)

Final Deliverables:

  • Create and execute social media strategy including at least 3 posts weekly
  • Develop social media content bank including photos, videos, and caption ideas
  • Final report on opportunities to effectively communicate with young professionals

Applicant Criteria:

  • Junior or senior student
  • Self-starter who excels in organizing ideas to accomplish a goal
  • Familiarity with social media platforms
  • Strong writing skills
  • Experience developing and executing communications strategies is a plus
