In the 2024-2025 School Year, the Student Retention Council will select four Regional Directors via
an application process, who will serve as a local leader for the SRC for the school year. They will
work to plan and execute a Quality of Life related project that will appeal to young professionals in
partner communities. Regional Directors will also lead a committee of 3-4 peers appointed by
university presidents to highlight Alabama’s strengths across campuses. They will report to the
Higher Education Partnership on a regular basis

Regional Directors will receive a $1,500 stipend each semester (3,000 in school year) for their
work. Additionally, travel expenses will be covered. Throughout their time in this role, Regional
Directors will be connected to local community and alumni mentors. They will be given an
opportunity to network with and learn from professionals across Alabama.
The Higher Education Partnership reserves the right to reduce stipends as a result of unexcused
absences from mandatory, quarterly meetings or incomplete work expectations.

Time Requirements:

  • Weekly responsibilities (estimated 2-3 hours weekly):
    • Self-driven work to complete tasks and weekly reporting
    • One weekly Zoom with Partnership staff and other regional directors with a written one-page report
    • Outreach to SRC appointees in region weekly and documentation of
    • communication
    • Strategy development and execution related to community project, provide notes
  • Semester responsibilities:
    • Summer Zoom meetings, based on group availability
    • 2 professional development events in person per semester, including orientation and final presentation (mandatory full day commitment, with some travel possible overnight travel required).
    • Expenses for mileage and rooming are covered.
  • Fall: Project Implementation, Weekend Intensive (may require overnight travel)
  • Spring: Project Implementation, Regional Execution (may require overnight travel)
  • Optional Opportunities:
    • Attend STARS Leadership and University Advocates Conference, August 5-7, prior to
      mandatory SRC orientation Aug. 8-9
    • Represent SRC at regional events if relevant, including but not limited to
      conferences, speaking engagements, and civic clubs, or business/networking

  • August 8-9 – Orientation @ Courtyard Marriott, Destin, FL
  • October 8 – SRC Professional Development 1: Understanding Career Opportunities in
    Alabama @ Montgomery, AL
  • Jan 30 – SRC Professional Development 2: Creating ”Quality of Life” @ Montgomery, AL
  • April 15 – 16 – Final Legislative Presentation in Montgomery, AL

Final Deliverables:

At the conclusion of the academic year, the Regional Director will be responsible for the
implementation of ONE community project that encourages young professionals to consider a
partner community as a post-graduate destination. They will submit a written report on the
planning process at the end of the year, demonstrating the success in their region
