Mark Barry Awarded by American Advertising Federation

Adding to a growing list of accolades, Mark Barry was recently honored with a Silver Medal from the American Advertising Federation (AAF), demonstrating once again the caliber of talent within the College of Communication and Information Sciences (C&IS). The award is the highest honor the AAF can give members who have exemplified long-term contributions to the advertising industry and community.

As an associate professor and the Director of Minerva, Barry exemplifies the high caliber of faculty within C&IS. He is an educator who does not just teach theory but also encourages students to take an active role in shaping the creative landscape they hope to work in. This award follows a string of prestigious accolades for Barry, including being named the 2020 AAF District 7 Educator of the Year and receiving the 2024 Outstanding Commitment to Teaching Award from the UA National Alumni Association.

Despite this impressive track record, Barry remains grounded. Upon receiving the news of this latest distinction, he expressed both gratitude and surprise.

“Winning the Silver Medal for the American Advertising Federation is a big honor,” said Barry. “To be honest, it came as a pretty big shock as I suffer from a pretty extreme case of imposter syndrome. Nonetheless, it means a great deal to be recognized by your peers and the people you look up to like this.”

It is a powerful reminder to the aspiring creatives in the Minerva program that even those at the top of their field experience doubt. By continuing to bridge the gap between industry professionals and the classroom, Barry isn’t just winning medals – he is also actively shaping the next generation of advertising leaders.
