C&IS Propels Research Innovation Through New Laboratory
The development of new technologies, enhanced facilities and unprecedented studies have propelled advancements in communication and information research. As the ever-evolving field continues to expand, it has become increasingly important for communicators to adopt these emerging trends and technologies.
In an effort to remain a step ahead, C&IS invested more than $200,000 in state-of-the-art equipment that enables researchers to observe and record biological responses to stimuli. This investment helped launch the Health Communication and Biometrics Laboratory.

C&IS Alumni Reconnect to Produce Hit TV Series
When Bobby Bones, National Geographic and BBC Studios approached Jeffrey Weaver about producing Breaking Bobby Bones, he knew exactly the team he needed to assemble to get the job done.
Weaver enlisted the help of three fellow alumni he met years prior, proving the strength and opportunities the C&IS alumni network provides.
“It’s the real deal success story. They all started out working on some of my projects and have since been recruited to work on other productions.”

Documenting the Stallings Legacy
In his time at The University of Alabama, former head football coach Gene Stallings made a lasting impact on his players, colleagues and the entire UA community. Motivated by his legacy, C&IS professors and producers set out to capture his story and his influence in a documentary.
Do Right: The Stallings Standard showcases the creative activity of Journalism and Creative Media professors Dr. Chandra Clark and Dr. Michael Bruce. Through collaboration with C&IS students, faculty and the Center for Public Television, the team captured the stories of the former Alabama football coach and the people who have felt the impact of his legacy.

A Commitment to Research
Recent scholarship from C&IS professors includes topics such as managing the uncertainty of “ghosting,” understanding racial representation in technology, breaking veteran stereotypes and analyzing the perception of sports officiating technology.
