Alabama Program in Sports Communication

The University of Alabama Program in Sports Communication provides the opportunity to connect sports communication programs and emphases in the College of Communication & Information Sciences and in many other Colleges at the Capstone. The APSC offers public events, highlights research and creative projects, and facilitates advanced discussions of communication and sport issues throughout the community and throughout the nation.

Conferences, Events and Symposia

Our faculty are members of many prominent professional organizations and present their award-winning research at national level conferences. C&IS also hosts the annual University of Alabama Diversity Symposium where participants present research and contribute their knowledge to the topic of diversity.

Health Communication Lab

The UA Health Communication Lab is housed in Reese Phifer Hall in the College of Communication and Information Sciences at The University of Alabama. The Lab, which teams faculty and student researchers, examines questions such as: how new technology might be used to increase nutritional knowledge and exercise among children and adults, how the mass media might help mitigate the stigma attached to illnesses such as schizophrenia, obesity, and other health issues, and how media can be used to increase health literacy in populations where health disparities are the greatest.

Research Colloquia and Brown Bag Lunches

The ICIR will host Brown Bag and Research Colloquia events throughout the academic year that are intended to engage the College’s research faculty on topics related to maintaining an active research program.  These events are informal and designed to engage faculty and graduate students about research collaborations on projects and grant and foundation submissions.

Pizza with Professors

Undergraduate students are invited to join C&IS faculty for lunch and learn more about research in communication and how they can get involved.

Undergraduate Applied Research

Research plays a key role in all communication careers. Opportunities like Capstone Agency, AdTeam and the Alabama Forensic Council help students use research to build skills that will make them more competitive in their chosen career.
