Dr. Trevor Diehl is an associate professor whose research examines how emerging technologies shape engagement with the news, political participation, and public opinion. Dr. Diehl’s current work explores the rise of new forms of political communication, like social media, podcasting, and memes.  His research interests include political persuasion, knowledge and cognition, audience fragmentation, and global populism. 

Impact Beyond the University 

Dr. Diehl contributes to broader conversations about the role of media in democracies and the public’s understanding of important issues of the day, from climate change to immigration. His work offers insight into how political messages circulate online and how digital ecosystems shape public opinion and polarization. By bridging computational data with established survey techniques, his research also helps advance methodological approaches in journalism and communication studies. His work is regularly featured at national and international academic venues, and he is a regular reviewer for top journals in the field. 

A Passion for Teaching and Informed Citizenship 

Dr. Diehl teaches both theory and multimedia production courses. He has taught courses related to digital news production, media literacy, media history, and graduate research methods.
