About

Zachary Tigert is a veteran storyteller with professional experience in sports broadcasting, destination marketing, and higher education. He teaches sports media courses where he prepares the next generation of sports storytellers for careers across broadcast, digital and strategic communication platforms.

Tigert also serves as faculty advisor for the University of Alabama’s chapter of the Association for Women in Sports Media, supporting student leadership and advocacy within the sports media industry.

Impact Beyond the University

Before entering academia, Tigert built an award-winning career in destination marketing in College Station, Texas. In that role, he helped tell the story of the community through advertising, media partnerships, and content creation, and played a key role in guiding his organization through the COVID-19 pandemic using strategic communication and collaborative media efforts.

Earlier in his career, Tigert worked as a sports broadcaster covering a wide range of collegiate athletics across West Alabama. His reporting and anchoring experience includes coverage of four College Football National Championships, the NCAA Tournament, the NAIA Basketball Tournament and the Women’s College World Series, among many other major sporting events.

A Passion for Sports Storytelling and Professional Mentorship

Tigert teaches his students storytelling craft, adaptability across platforms and the strategic role of sports media in shaping community and identity. He encourages students to develop both journalistic and promotional storytelling skills while maintaining ethical and professional standards.

Through teaching, advising and mentorship, Tigert supports students as they build confidence, industry awareness, and the storytelling expertise needed to succeed in sports media and related fields.
