About

Dr. Jeonghyun Oh’s research explores the complex dynamics of group communication and persuasive communication, with a particular interest in how sensory experiences shape group decision-making. Her work examines how communication cues, like verbal, visual and sensory can affect the way people process information, form judgmentsand reach consensus.

She also investigates the role of metacognition, or awareness of one’s own thinking, in how individuals apply and interpret communication theories in real-world contexts. By studying how people think about their own communication behavior, Dr. Oh contributes to a deeper understanding of what makes persuasion effective and collaborationsuccessful.

Impact Beyond the University

Dr. Oh’s work offers valuable insights for organizations, educators, and leaders aiming to improve teamwork and decision-making processes. Her research helps groups better understand how perception, context, and communication strategy influence outcomes.

Her findings also inform the design of more engaging and effective communication environments, where sensory and cognitive factors are harnessed to enhance clarity, empathy, and collaboration.

A Passion for Teaching and Applied Learning

In the classroom, Dr. Oh teaches courses to help students connect foundational theory with practical application. She encourages learners to reflect on how communication shapes thought, emotion, and group behavior.

Through interactive projects and discussions, Dr. Oh challenges students to think critically about how they communicate—and how they can communicate better. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes that understanding communication at both the cognitive and collective levels is essential to becoming an ethical, persuasive, and thoughtful communicator in any setting.
