By uncovering how rhetoric shapes emotion, identity, and ideology, Dr. Ohl’s work provides critical insights into how societies construct meaning in times of conflict and crisis.

Impact Beyond the University

Dr. Ohl’s research contributes to ongoing societal debates surrounding the ethics of war, how the past should be remembered, and the impact of violent communication on democratic health. His work demonstrates how language and images can be used to both unite and divide, inspire civic action or manipulate public will. Through his scholarship, Dr. Ohl equips academics, educators, and citizens with the tools to critically evaluate public messages to resist dehumanization, deception and extremism.
