Mark Mayfield is an Instructor in the Department of Journalism and Creative Media at the University of Alabama and serves as the department’s News Media Internship Coordinator. In these roles, he supports students’ professional development through instruction, mentorship, and experiential learning opportunities in journalism. 

Mayfield brings distinguished newsroom leadership experience to the classroom. He is a former editor-in-chief of House Beautiful magazine and was a member of the founding editorial staff of USA Today, contributing to the launch of one of the most influential news organizations in American journalism.

Through his work in national media organizations, Mayfield has helped shape editorial vision, newsroom standards and audience-focused journalism. His experience spans magazine and newspaper journalism, providing students with insight into multiple media formats and evolving industry practices. 

As News Media Internship Coordinator, Mayfield plays a key role in connecting students with professional opportunities that align classroom learning with real-world newsroom experience.
