TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Dec. 9, 2021) – Meagan Cancio is the campaign management team lead for Walmart Connect, previously at BBH.
Cancio describes her role as “the glue that keeps the team together.” She serves as the key point of contact from the agency to the client and vice versa. In this role, it is pivotal to be a jack of all trades when it comes to communication and understanding perspectives from other departments within the agency.
“It is important to understand perspectives from everyone’s roles, such as the business manager, creative director or the producer,” Cancio said. “You are the person who is there to make sure everything goes smoothly, happens within budget, in harmony, and on time; it requires you to be highly strategic.”
During her time at UA, Cancio studied advertising and was able to open her eyes to the many roles in the industry. She highlights that the A+PR program at UA gave her a full picture and broad understanding of advertising through the many courses offered. Cancio was also a member of Sigma Delta Tau and a member of Hillel.
After graduating from UA, Cancio continued her education at VCU Brandcenter where she completed her master’s degree in creative brand management. She then began her career in account management in agencies including Dentsu Americas, 360i and Saatchi & Saatchi.
Cancio’s best advice for current A+PR students is to work on communication and listening skills as she explains that it is a key part of being successful in advertising.
“A big part of advertising is being able to work with people from all walks of life and valuing their unique perspectives,” Cancio said. “What makes people successful in this industry is kindness and creativity.”
