CommUnity 2024

CommUnity is an annual C&IS event hosted by the Student Executive Council (SEC) where representatives from student organizations, campus partners and C&IS resources can all showcase what they have to offer and invite students to participate.

AAF UA

The unifying voice for advertising, AAF is a national grassroots organization that helps people build their brand, connect with industry leaders and advocate for the advertising industry. AAF is open to students of any major or classification. By becoming an official member, you get access to exclusive newsletters, job opportunities, scholarships and more!

Academic Honor Council

The Academic Honor Council is a collective group of student justices from across the college who serve as ambassadors for academic integrity.

Advertising and Public Relations Student Initiative Board

The A+PR Student Initiative Board (SIBs) is an organization that acts as a liaison between students and faculty in the APR department. Students will strengthen their communication and professional skills by conducting interviews with APR faculty candidates. Members must either have a major or minor in advertising or public relations.

There is no deadline or specific time frame to join; apply on the C&IS Engagement Portal.

Alice Magazine is UA’s premier women’s lifestyle magazine.

Bama ASL Club

The Bama ASL Club’s goal is to connect individuals from hearing and Deaf communities in
ways that strengthen opportunities for state, local, and our UA academic communities through
language and culture education, community service, and cooperation with other organizations

BEA Student Media Club

The BEA Student Media Club is a student-driven organization designed to drive insights, excellence in media production, career preparation, and advancement in media production for students, educators and media professionals.

Capstone Association of Black Journalists

Capstone Association of Black Journalists is a student chapter directly affiliated with the National Association of Black Journalists for The University of Alabama. Our goal is to professionally prepare students for a career in the world of news, broadcast, journalism, radio, and writing. We will accomplish this by hosting events, guest speakers, and forming a network between students and media professionals.

Career Center at C&IS

The Career Center @ C&IS and Tisch Student Services are dedicated to helping students identify and reach their career goals. Meet with our career services staff to participate in mock interviews and resume critiques, network with industry professionals and attend professional development events.

At The Digital Media Center (DMC), you can work alongside industry professionals through paid jobs, unpaid internships and course laboratories to develop the skills you need for your career.

First-Year Interest Groups (FIGs) are designed for new C&IS students (freshmen and transfer students) to create relationships, get connected to C&IS student organizations and be prepared for leadership roles.

Girls Club Alabama

Girls Club Alabama is a dynamic community for women aspiring to work in the sports business industry.  Girls Club provides networking opportunities, exclusive athletic facility tours, and more.

Industry Immersion

Industry Immersion is a professional development program hosted by the College that serves to strengthen relationships between students, alumni and industry professionals.

Nineteen Fifty-Six Magazine

Nineteen Fifty-Six is the first Black student-led magazine at The University of Alabama. Nineteen Fifty-Six was created to celebrate and highlight Black culture, Black excellence and Black student experiences at the University.

The Oakley Society

The Oakley Society brings together students and professionals in mutually rewarding relationships and promotes and supports professional development. The program is open to any C&IS student with 45 or more semester credit hours earned in all C&IS majors.

Platform Magazine

Platform Magazine is a student-run public relations online magazine sponsored by The Plank Center. Functioning as a class, students write a variety of articles and blogs about the public relations field.

Public Relations Council of Alabama

PRCA is a student-led organization that invites students from all experience levels to learn about the public relations field. All are welcome.

The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) is a preprofessional organization dedicated to engaging future PR professionals through fun events, informative meetings and an irreplaceable network of like-minded peers.
