Career Center @ C&IS

As an extension of the university-wide Career Center, the Career Center at C&IS partners with students as they explore future possibilities, develop skills, and connect with opportunities. Amy Bramlett serves as the program manager of career service for C&IS. Her office is located in Reese Phifer Hall where she regularly meets with C&IS students to discuss internship opportunities, interview tips, career goals and more.

All C&IS students are encouraged to make regular appointments with the Career Center at C&IS throughout their academic career. Whether you’re exploring internship opportunities or preparing to launch your career after graduation, the Career Center at C&IS offers resources and guidance to help you succeed.

Industry Immersion

Launch your career with high-powered networking and professional development through a C&IS Industry Immersion trip. The College of Communication & Information Sciences plans trips during regular semester and summer breaks to promote professional interests and give insight into how to land internships and full-time employment. Student participants meet directly with executives and hiring managers at leading companies and agencies throughout the United States while experiencing a new city! For more information visit industry.ua.edu.

Internship Resources

More than 400 C&IS students participate in internships each year locally, nationally and internationally. Often landing some of the most prestigious and competitive internships, the College has a reputation employers are seeking in interns. The College offers resources to assist you with meeting employers, preparing for your interview, arranging an internship for course credit and learning how to convey your experience on your resume for future full-time employment. Each undergraduate major has an internship coordinator who can refer you to specific resources and advise on when you should look for internships related to your major. Internships are available for all five C&IS majors through the C&IS Internship Page.

Oakley Society Professional Mentoring

The Oakley Society at C&IS brings students and professionals together in mutually rewarding relationships. We purposefully pair students with a mentor in an industry of interest. The program is open to juniors and seniors (any C&IS student with 61 or more semester credit hours earned) in all C&IS majors.

Mentoring relationships with C&IS alumni and professionals in your fields of interest are empowering and encouraging, and will help you achieve your highest post-graduate goals. Mentors help with questions big and small, all while holding you accountable to the vision you have for yourself.

Panel Discussions

Panel discussions and guest speakers are hosted by the College throughout the year. You will have the opportunity to meet business executives and industry professionals to discuss trending career topics. These sessions adress internships and careers in different cities, interview preparation tips, network building and more.

Resume Critiques

A resume serves as your marketing tool to highlight your accomplishments and skill sets to potential employers and organizations. An effective resume should always be tailored and targeted to a specific audience. The Career Center @ C&IS hosts drop-in resume critiques throughout the semester or you can make an appointment to have your resume reviewed at any time.
