Doctoral Program

The doctoral program prepares students for top positions as researchers, scholars and thought leaders in academia, industry or government. Taking a multidisciplinary approach, PhD candidates work alongside world leaders in the field to develop research proficiency, breadth and a depth of knowledge.

Funding

C&IS empowers students to write, speak, design, film and explore through scholarships and awards.

Advising

Advisors are assigned during the first week of class each semester. Graduate students, or undergraduates with more than 60 earned hours, are assigned to a faculty advisor in their department. Students advised by a faculty advisor should e-mail them to discuss signing up for an advising time slot.

You can find your advisor’s name at the top of DegreeWorks, located in the Students tab in myBama. If an advisor isn’t listed, visit Tisch Student Services for help.

Internships

More than 400 C&IS students participate in internships each year, nationally and internationally. Meet employers, get interview experience and grow your resume.

Resources

Experience the world of communication through study abroad programs around the world and learn practical skills through offices and programs like The Speaking Studio and The Writing Center.

Industry Immersion

Career Services

Meet with the C&IS Career Center to discuss your interests, values and skills and to begin career planning. Participate in mock interviews and resume critiques and gain access to UA’s job search database, Handshake.
