Tuscaloosa’s One Place (TOP) is a Family Resource Center dedicated to strengthening families, preventing child abuse and neglect, and promoting long-term stability through education, workforce development, and coordinated community services. TOP works with individuals and families across West Alabama and partners with schools, courts, nonprofits, and local businesses to deliver impactful, data-informed programming.
Position: Media Relations Manager Intern
Location: Tuscaloosa, Alabama (Hybrid options may be available)
Reports To: Executive Director and/or Development and Communications Team
Time Commitment: 10–20 hours per week (flexible based on academic schedule)
Position Summary:
The Media Relations Manager Intern supports TOP’s communications, marketing, and media outreach efforts. This role offers hands-on experience in nonprofit communications, public relations, and digital marketing. The intern actively contributes to storytelling, brand visibility, and community engagement by creating and managing content across multiple platforms. This internship is ideal for students interested in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, nonprofit leadership, or related fields.
Key Responsibilities:
Media and Communications
- Draft press releases, media advisories, and story pitches using AP style
- Assist in maintaining and updating media contact and marketing email lists
- Support outreach to local and regional media outlets to promote programs, events, and
initiatives
Digital Marketing and Content Creation - Assist with monthly e-newsletters and email marketing campaigns using Constant
Contact - Create and adapt content for multiple audiences and platforms, including web, email, and
social media - Develop social media content calendars and assist with posting and engagement
- Track basic analytics and engagement metrics to support continuous improvement
Design and Promotional Materials
- Create promotional materials such as flyers, brochures, social media graphics, and digital
assets using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite - Support brand consistency across all materials and platforms
- Assist with organizing and maintaining a digital asset library of photos, videos, and
promotional materials
Website and Partner Support - Assist with updating website content using Wix to ensure accuracy and relevance
- Collaborate with community partners and internal staff to promote events and initiatives
- Support leadership and program staff by translating program outcomes into clear,
compelling messaging
Learning Outcomes:

Qualifications:
- Current undergraduate or graduate student in communications, marketing, public
relations, journalism, nonprofit management, or a related field - Strong written communication skills with attention to clarity and tone
- Interest in community-based work and nonprofit mission-driven organizations
- Familiarity with social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram
- Working knowledge of or willingness to learn Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and
Microsoft Office - Ability to manage deadlines and work independently with guidance
Preferred Skills (Not Required):
- Experience with AP style writing
- Experience with Constant Contact, Wix, or Meta Business Suite
- Photography or basic video editing skills
