The U.S. Commercial Service France offers year-round unpaid internship opportunities where you can do all the above. We are currently seeking interns for the Fall 2025 internship block. Applications for this period will close July 7th. While we are currently prioritizing hiring for the Fall, we will also be accepting interns for winter and spring/summer 2026 and invite you to consider joining us when hiring for those time periods approach as well.

What We Do
The U.S. Commercial Service is the trade promotion arm of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration. We provide a range of services and programs to help American companies export goods and services to foreign markets and to encourage and facilitate inward investment into the United States. The U.S. Commercial France at the U.S. Embassy in Paris analyzes information on the French market, facilitates contacts with French businesses, promotes U.S. products in the French and European marketplace, and advocates U.S. business interests. We assist trade missions to France and provide logistical support to U.S. companies holding product launches and exhibitions.

What Our Interns Do
Interns are given assignments that will provide exposure to a full range of our activities and services and every attempt is made to provide meaningful and experiential learning opportunities. Assignments may include the following:

  • Collecting and analyzing information for market research reports
  • Responding to enquiries from U.S. Companies
  • Assisting in the preparation of trade events and trade missions
  • Assisting with our matchmaking services that help U.S. companies find partners and distributors in France

Please note interns do not receive any compensation and no housing or financial assistance is available.

To qualify, you must be:

  • a junior, senior or postgraduate student
  • available to work for a minimum of 4 months
  • able to work full time
  • currently enrolled in an accredited American College or University and returning to school after the internship ends
  • in possession of a U.S. passport

French language ability is a plus

Once initial applications are reviewed, selected candidates will then be invited to participate in a virtual interview. Finally, those accepted into the position will be required to complete a full application package for a security assurance check, which will be sent to you via email. Internships are finalized only after a successful clearance has been obtained. Note that security clearance usually takes at least 6 weeks to process and thus requirements applications must be submitted well before the desired start date.
