Visit C&IS

We hope you will visit C&IS to see all we have to offer. We host information sessions and tours of Reese Phifer Hall and the Digital Media Center (DMC) for students each weekday.

Capstone Communication Day

Capstone Communication Day is a one-day event for high school juniors and seniors to learn more about C&IS, its majors, classes, internships and more. Capstone Communication Day will be Friday, February 7th, 2025. This is an all day event.

CAMP

Communication and Media Preview (CAMP) is a five-night, six-day experience for high school students interested in gaining hands-on experience in broadcasting, media, writing, social media, promotion and public speaking from some of the nation’s leading experts.

When: June 9-14, 2025.

Current Students

Tisch Student Services, located on the first floor of Reese Phifer in suite 190, is a hub for C&IS students looking to learn more about academics, leadership, career services, scholarships, organizations and student life. Our doors are open to students seeking guidance in their academic and professional careers.

Advising

Academic advising is available in Tisch Student Services. Our advisors take pride in our students’ backgrounds and perspectives and encourage them to succeed inside and outside the classroom.  

Funding

At C&IS, we provide a variety of opportunities for funding assistance through college-wide and departmental scholarships and awards. The University of Alabama also boasts competitive and robust scholarship opportunities for qualified students.

Housing

C&IS offers incoming freshmen the opportunity to join the Capstone Communication Living-Learning Community (LLC). The LLC, housed in John England Jr. Hall, gives C&IS students the opportunity to live, learn and study together with peers who share their interests. Priority applications for the 2024-25 LLC are due March 1, 2024.

Graduation

Get Involved

With more than 30 student organizations, C&IS provides students with a diverse range of opportunities for involvement. Learn more about each of our student organizations or visit the C&IS Engagement Portal for a customized list of organizations you can apply for today.

Internships

More than 500 C&IS students participate in internships each year, nationally and internationally. Internships are available for all undergraduate majors through the C&IS Internship Portal

Industry Immersion

C&IS Industry Immersion is a professional development program that offers students the chance to explore industry and leading job markets in the country. Network with C&IS alumni and leaders in cities across the nation by attending an Industry Immersion trip.

Career Services

The Career Center @ C&IS and Tisch Student Services are dedicated to helping students identify and reach their career goals. Meet with our career services staff to participate in mock interviews and resume critiques, network with industry professionals and attend professional development events. 

Resources

Reese Phifer Hall houses several community and college-wide resources for students, faculty and staff. Practice skills through offices and programs like The Speaking Studio and the Media Writing Center, find computer labs and collaboration spaces and more.
