About Tuscaloosa’s One Place  

Tuscaloosa’s One Place (TOP) is a nonprofit Family Resource Center dedicated to enhancing family health and fostering community well-being. TOP serves over 20,000 individuals annually through more than 20 dynamic programs across West Alabama. Founded in 1999, TOP utilizes the Strengthening Families™ framework to encourage resilience, build social connections, develop emotional competence, and enhance self-sufficiency in community members. TOP also dedicates efforts to preventing child abuse. These efforts are supported by our devoted leadership team and over 300 community partners. TOP is committed to guiding families toward a brighter, more independent future while supporting our mission to meet families where they are.

TOP is offering an internship opportunity for individuals to enhance their skills in digital media including content creation, graphic design, video editing, and social media management. Interns will gain insight into the workings of non-profit organizations, understanding how digital media plays a crucial role in raising awareness, mobilizing support, and achieving the organization’s goals. Additionally, interns will have the chance to network with professionals in the non-profit sector, potentially opening doors for future collaborations, mentorships, or employment opportunities.

Location: Tuscaloosa, AL

Internship Type: For Course Credit; Hours will vary

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing and curating content for the organization’s social media platforms.
  • Create, schedule, and publish engaging posts that resonate with the target audience; generate a content calendar.
  • Monitor social media channels, respond to comments, and foster community engagement.
  • Develop visually appealing graphics, videos, and other multimedia content to support the organization’s digital initiatives.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of digital campaigns to promote organizational goals; write press releases and other external communication materials.
  • Work closely with the Director of Communications to ensure consistency in messaging and branding across all digital channels.
  • Collaborate on integrated campaigns that leverage both online and offline channels.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, digital media best practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Research competitors and similar organizations to identify opportunities for innovation.
  • Propose new ideas and strategies to enhance the organization’s digital presence.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining digital assets, including photos, videos, and design files.
  • Support administrative tasks related to digital media projects, such as scheduling and coordination.

Qualifications:

  • Rising junior or senior (or graduate level student)
  • 3.5 GPA or above
  • Pursuing a degree in Advertising and Public Relations, Communication Studies, Journalism and Creative Media, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with managing and curating content on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc.
  • Ability to create engaging, original content that resonates with target audiences and is consistent with the brand. This includes strong writing skills and the ability to generate a consistent flow of posts as per a content calendar.
  • Competence in graphic design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite) and basic video editing tools.
  • Proficiency in capturing high-quality photos and videos at events. This includes understanding lighting, composition, and camera settings, as well as post-production editing skills.
  • Familiarity with the operations, culture, and goals of nonprofit organizations.
  • Keen organizational skills and attention to detail
