The Bill Battle Academic Center is looking for qualified tutors for various content areas. Compensation for this position is dependent on education and experience with a range of $12.00 – $18.00/hour. We offer flexible scheduling with a minimum requirement of 6 hours per week.

The Athletic Tutor position requires sufficient academic knowledge of college undergraduate courses in various content areas and fields of study. The applicant must be able to tutor/teach course content, and guide students in meeting academic deadlines. Tutors will assist in the development of general study, planning, and time-management skills. All tutors must be able to review, discuss, and explain course material in a clear, effective, and creative manner, as well as conduct test review sessions. All tutors can expect to assist a diverse population of students including entering freshmen, continuing, and international students.

Student tutor positions:

  • Minimum qualifications:
    • Must be currently enrolled in an academic program at the University of Alabama
    • Must be in good academic standing with a minimum GPA of 3.0 (3.5 undergrad)
  • Teaching, mentoring, or tutoring experience preferred. Advanced subject knowledge with no experience may be considered.

Staff tutor positions:

  • Minimum qualifications:
    • Bachelor’s degree;
    • Teaching, mentoring, or tutoring experience preferred. Advanced subject knowledge with no experience may be considered.

The Fund for American Studies (TFAS) hosts Washington, D.C.-based Academic Internship Programs for undergraduate students each summer. TFAS programs include academic credit from George Mason University, an internship placement and furnished housing in the heart of Washington, D.C.

Students participate in a variety of exclusive guest lectures, site briefings as well as professional development and networking events. TFAS students leave Washington with 250+ hours of professional experience, an expanded network of contacts, and a greater understanding of the variety of career opportunities.

Qualifications for the Spring 2024 Internship:

  • Internships with WKRG-TV / wkrg.com are HIGHLY SELECTIVE. All Spring 2024 Internships are IN-PERSON and based at our main broadcast & digital studios in Mobile, Alabama. All internships are SUPERVISED.  The intern’s station supervisor will oversee the intern’s attendance and performance to evaluate, monitor, and assess the intern’s progress and ensure they are receiving the proper education/training. All internships are UNPAID. The intern is responsible for their own transportation.
  • Students who must earn academic credit to participate will receive priority consideration for positions in the cohort.  Students are expected to obtain and complete any forms necessary to receive credit for the internship experience.  The intern’s college/university academic advisor (and institution guidelines) determines the amount of credit available (and subsequently, the amount of time an intern will be available on a weekly basis).  The station intern supervisor will take into account each intern’s availability to establish a work schedule which provides for an enriching experience.
